Students in Finland can bring family members (spouse and children under 18) with them. Family members can apply for residence permits on the basis of family ties.

Eligibility: The student must have a valid residence permit for studies and demonstrate sufficient means of support for family members.

International students with a valid residence permit for studies can work up to 30 hours per week during term time and full-time during holiday periods without a separate work permit.

After graduation, international students can apply for an extended residence permit for up to one year to seek employment or start a business in Finland.

Eligibility: Must have completed a degree in Finland and apply before the student residence permit expires.

After four years of continuous residence in Finland with valid residence permits (including study and work permits), individuals can apply for a permanent residence permit (P permit).

Eligibility: Must have lived in Finland continuously for four years with valid permits and meet other requirements such as no debts to Finnish authorities.

Family members who receive a residence permit on the basis of family ties can work in Finland without restrictions or a separate work permit.
